Rosa Parks passed away yesterday. Her courage not only in refusing to give up her seat but also in agreeing to participate in the NAACP lawsuit changed America. How many people would agree to risk their lives to fight an injustice? In a time of lynchings and church bombings, she agreed to become a target in the civil rights movement. She demonstrated how one person can make a difference. A lesson for us all.
In the days of segregation with separate bathrooms for whites and blacks, where did Asians fit in?

Monday, October 10th, 2005Once again, Bush is demonstrates that it’s not what you know but rather who you know. Apparently he didn’t learn from “Brownie”… But then again, where would Bush be if it weren’t for his name and family connections? He never would have made it into Yale, wouldn’t have gotten out of serving in Vietnam, never would have maed it into Harvard Business School, etc. Check out Bush’s resume.
Other than being a close personal friend of Bush (and being a lawyer), Miers has no qualifications to serve on the Supreme Court. Isn’t it the right that always says the best person should get the job? How is someone with neither judicial nor constituional law experience qualified for the top court? It’s also funny that her backers are pushing her religious faith to convince other conservatives to support her–weren’t they saying a few weeks ago that a person’s religion should not be a factor in Supreme Court nominations?
All we need is a little hope
Tuesday, October 4th, 2005And that’s about all we have for Husky football. If not for a few mistakes, the Huskies could be 3-2 rather than 1-4. That said, we can see a light at the end of the tunnel while last year it just felt like we were falling into a bottomless pit. The Huskies appear to be playing much better than last year. They are doing some things well although they are prone to mistakes; whereas last year, it seemed like they couldn’t do anything right. I’ve heard a few people talk about Willingham being a good coach Sunday through Friday–i.e. not a good tactician on Saturdays. It seems like people who say this have no football background–other than watching games with a beer in hand. They’re just repeating what some sportswriters have written, but some of these same sportswriters once thought Pitt would be a good team this year. It’s especially annoying from Notre Dame fans who seem to have forgotten that ND beat Michigan and MSU last year–this year, they beat Michigan but lost to MSU. Furthermore, the beat UW by a larger margin and in a more dominating fashion last year; so does that mean Willingham is a better coach than Weis?
